Become a volunteer. Choose the committee you'd like to volunteer with and click the button to fill out our online volunteer form. Please note spots fill quickly and there's no guarantee that there will be vacancy in the area of your choice.
All volunteers are REQUIRED to attend both mandatory trainings in order to volunteer for Christmas on The Boulevard.
Two Mandatory Training Days For All Volunteers
Wednesday, December 7 at 6:30 pm - 7:45 pm
Wednesday, December 14 at 6:30 pm - 7:45 pm
All trainings will take place virtually on zoom. Links will be distributed the week of the training.
Please note: If you volunteer you CANNOT receive gifts or receive from the pantry.
Christmas on The Boulevard Committee Descriptions
Packing & Sorting
Volunteers will assist with sorting and packaging of gifts. This is a high security area, and confidentiality is required. Volunteers assist weekdays/weeknights and weekends, depending on the need. Some volunteers that serve on this committee will be expected to assist day of and arrive as early as 6:00 a.m. Day of responsibilities will include packing gifts for unregistered families – only if supplies are available.
Barricade Set-up
Volunteers are required to assist with setting up barricades in the church parking lots on Friday, December 16 and Saturday, December 17. Volunteers will be responsible for moving and arranging metal barricades to various areas as directed by team leaders and NYPD. Please note that barricades weigh approximately 20 to 25 lbs., therefore we are asking that volunteers be able to lift barricades without personal injury.
Gift Distribution
Volunteers will assist with the distribution of toys and gifts to children and families. High level of patience, and excellent customer service skills required. Volunteers will interact with families and children; many of whom have stood in line for up to 5 hours waiting to receive gifts. Volunteers assist day of and will be expected to arrive as early as 6:00 a.m. to remove gifts from inside the cathedral and transport them to the outdoor gift distribution area. Volunteers will also be expected to assist with breaking down the gift distribution area and transporting remaining toys (if any) back to the cathedral.
Pantry
Volunteers will assist with packaging of produce, and distribution of produce, non-perishable food items and more. Volunteers will also be responsible for assisting with set-up. High level of patience, and excellent customer service skills required. Volunteers will interact with families and children; many of whom have stood in line for up to 5 hours waiting for receive gifts. Volunteers assist day of, and will be expected to arrive as early as 6:00 a.m. Volunteers will be expected to assist with breaking down the pantry area.
Line Management
Volunteers will assist with line management. Although discouraged, lines may begin as early as 5:00 am. It is the volunteer’s responsibility to help maintain order on line and help troubleshoot problems that may arise. High level of patience and excellent customer service skills required. Volunteers will interact with families and children, many of whom have stood in line for up to 5 hours waiting to receive gifts. Volunteers assist day of and will be expected to arrive at 5:00 a.m.
